Hi, I’m Nancy, and welcome to the Urban Kitchen Apothecary. I am a health-supportive chef, culinary wellness educator, and all-around holistic lifestyle guru based in New York City. I studied culinary arts in the chef’s training program at the renowned Natural Gourmet Institute in NYC followed by an internship in traditional culinary techniques at Three Stone Hearth, a Berkeley-based farm-to-table cooperative kitchen.
Before my immersion in all things culinary I graduated summa cum laude from Franklin and Marshall College with a major in classical archaeology and ancient history, completed a doctorate in medicine from New York Medical College, and spent more than a decade immersed in scientific data as a medical director for a healthcare communications company.
My little urban kitchen is stocked to the gills with fresh and dried herbs and spices, sea vegetables, medicinal mushrooms, superfoods of both the common and exotic varieties, and all matter of tinctures and concoctions, which I use to enhance both the flavors and medicinal properties of my culinary creations (hence the name of this blog). In addition to writing and developing recipes I also lead cooking classes and offer culinary wellness consultations in the NYC area.
The doctor of the future will give no medicine
but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame,
in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease. -Thomas Edison
